If I had to pick one girl from the Modern era

Burlesque beauties, pinup girls, vintage fashion, swanky suits, go-go boots, hairdoos,
cocktails, recipes, dancing, nostalgia and random retro lifestyle that a Space Age Atomic Age Bachelor might need to know about. Post War movies, television, broadway shows, music... exotica, lounge, cocktail, vocals, standards, space-age, swing, tiki, Modern Transportation, 1950s 1960s classic cars, monorails, scooters, trailers and trains, oh my...

If I had to pick one girl from the Modern era

Postby Matt Deckard » Tue Mar 29, 2005 2:27 am

Dianna Rig

The character of Emma Peel sits at the top of my list for girls regardless of era.

She was John Steeds third sidekick in The Avengers.
She was also Mrs. James Bond in On Her Majesty's Secret Service.

lots of brains and sex appeal

It was never really the outer beauty with her(though she has it)... She just has that attitude... that presence.
Strong willed, very much an alpha female.

Yea I always had a thing for Miss Peel as well. I cannot fathom how Steed kept his cool around her, but he did.

Marlo Thomas of 'That Girl' fame.
Went to the big city to be successful without depending on a man always looked classy.
Maybe Mary Tyler Moore (Show)-maybe that came too late but ya notice on the show NO ONE has a computer on their desk-she's still using a typewriter even in the last episodes...

It may be that the pic you are posting is coming from a site that won't allow the pic to be shown offsite. I tried posting the pic you tried earlier using the same URL as a test and couldn't get it to show.

I lusted for the young ladies from Gerry Anderson's UFO series. Wanda Ventham (Who played Virginia Lake) was particularly attractive:

She also played Nurse Spray in the Avengers episode "The Gravediggers."

Another hottie was Gabriel Drake, who simply stunned me with that crazy purple hair:

(dunno if that second one will be viewable).

Barbara Steele has to be one of my favorites from that era. Her performance in 8 1/2 was fantastic.

Also, Sharon Tate.

Perhaps what Mrs Peel and Agent 99 -- that is, Diana Rigg and Barbara Feldon -- had in common, was a cool demeanor, and the trace of a knowing smirk. . .?

Feldon did a "Five-Day Deodorant Pad" commercial, which I have verbatim:

[emerges from shower, takes a big bath towel -- speaks with crisp, perfect enunciation]

"After your shower, you want to feel *really clean* . . [uses towel] . . you wouldn't use anything but a . . *fresh*, *clean* towel . . would you? . . [pause] . . Shouldn't your deodorant be . . *just-as-fresh*, *just-as-clean* . . .?

Raquel Welch did it for me in the late sixties. A friend's older brother had the life size poster of her from the movie One Million Years B.C. We used to sneak in his room to get a look at it.

See the movie info:

Isn't that the same Welch poster that was in Shawshank Redemption? I hear they make great hole covers.

Guess who I saw at the Stardust last weekend?

She sang Pinball Wizard and Viva Las Vegas along with several other tunes. She's a bit too old for me now, though she still has that attitude.

Ya gotta love Ann Margaret. "Bye-bye, Birdie" is a gem --probably lotsa mid-century incidentals, too, tho I can't remember. Bobby Rydell, Paul Lynde, Mom (who?) sticking her head in the oven, before everybody bursts out with " :d: What the heck's the matter with kids today. . .?" :d:

Hoo-hah!

I saw Ann Margrock in Vegas with Deckard - and was thrilled when she sang...
I've Gotta Lotta Living to do!!!

And I gotta Say - Emma is one of my all time favs... but a few others that I like have not been mentioned yet.
Audrey Hepburn - ultimate fashion diva
Grace Kelly - ice goddess
Doris Day - the perenneal virgin

What do these women all have in common?
