Celebrities, Celebrated, Famous, 'known' people into MCM

Postby Futura Girl » Mon May 12, 2008 3:47 pm

i am trying to compile a loose list of folks who have expressed an interested in historic preservation of MCM or Modern buidlings or style in any way shape or form.

please supply anything you have heard around the office cooler or in the gossip columns :-)
even if it has been mentioned before on this site before ...
and if we have a previous thread mentioning such - please also post the link.
thanks big time for your help!

I am trying to make a case for an article - to show the importance of preserving modernism through the famous people angle.

And Frank Sinatra had a couple of cool modern pads in Palm Springs.
I think it was Gary Cooper who originally commissioned a modern house that This Old House toured here in California during the Cambridge MA modern house project. I think the architect was A Quincy Jones.

Oh, I don't know if this counts, but whenever Bugs Bunny is in California he is always shown by the pool of a flat roofed modern Hollywood Hills house. :D

Those living celebs in previous posts could donate to that VDL endowment elsewhere on here, a group of them could probably fill the entire endowment
in a matter of minutes.

unfortunately, although many people commonly think that celebrity/fame=money - in most cases it doesn't, unless they have a damn good business manager.

i am looking for more the "what's fashionable" angle.

Actually, Cox and Arquette no longer own the Segel House in Malibu. they sold it last year for about $33.5M to LA Dodgers owner, Frank McCourt.

These are interior and garden views of the West Hollywood house which Jared Najjar has recently sold to Simon Cowell. The "American Idol" host has purchased the 3 bedroom, 3 bathroom home for his girlfriend Terri Seymour. The $4.8 million home, built in 1961, boasts 2 outdoor fireplaces, custom black glass doors, pool and has impressive views.

this next one looks very cliff may...
ImageJim Carey owns this $20 million Brentwood Hills home. The nearly 8,100 square foot house has 5 bedrooms and 9 baths, spectacular mountain views, private tennis court, sauna and swimming pool.

Nick Lachey has just completed renovations on this Bel Air mountaintop home that he bought in 2006 for $5.5 million. The gated contemporary property, on a hidden, private road, has 4 bedrooms and 4 1/2 bathrooms in slightly more than 5,200 square feet. It has city-to-coastline views, soaring ceilings, a step-down living room, a pool with swim up bar. The house was built in 1960 and was recently remodeled by the former owners, Seal and Heidi Klum. Lachey and girlfriend Vanessa Minnillo call this home when they are in Los Angeles.

Actor Justin Long has has paid about $1.4 million for this remodeled mid-century modern home in the Hollywood Hills. Built in 1948, the 1,334 square foot house has two bedrooms and two full baths. Other features include fingerprint entry, touch-screen controls in every room, a high-tech security system, an outdoor plasma, and a flat back yard with kidney shaped pool. Long, who stars as a Mac computer in a popular series of TV ads and who appeared in 'Live Free or Die Hard' late last year is currently dating actress Drew Barrymore.

From today's LA Times
"There's nothing like new motherhood to get you thinking about the nest, which may explain why singer-songwriter Christina Aguilera, whose son was born in January, has listed her Hollywood Hills home for $7,995,000.

The architectural Midcentury sure sounds like an adult's toy box: It has a gym, a pool and a 12-person spa with a fireplace. There's also a professional screening room that seats 18. At 1,200 square feet, the master bedroom is bigger than many Manhattan apartments. The house is set high enough in the hills to enjoy jetliner views. There are five bedrooms and seven bathrooms in 6,500 square feet, and it all sits at the end of a cul-de-sac."

Note no architect reference, either in LAT or on the broker's site

How about Mutato Muzika day-glo green building owned by composer/artist/Devo member, Mark Mothersbaugh?

8760 Sunset Blvd.,
Los Angeles, CA 90069 USA

Or, songwriter, artist Allee Willis' house of atomic kitsch:
