Million Dollar Theater

Postby nichols » Tue Jun 30, 2009 4:34 pm

Via the Los Angeles Historic Theatre Foundation:

"Hillsman Wright, Don Solosan and I crawled up into the hidden spaces
inside the Million Dollar Theater couple of weeks ago. Here is a short
documentary that came out of that day.

The Theatre Historical Society of America visited this theatre in 2005 as part of the Southern California Conclave and Theatre Tour. Since then new management has taken it over and refurbished it into a beautiful theatre that we see today. The Manager Mr. Robert Voskanian has been very open to letting Historical and Preservation Groups use and tour his theatre which we thank him for

The entire video is 15-minutes long, broken up into three parts. Here
is the direct link to the playlist. ... playnext=1

Let me know if there are any issues with the videos.

If need ever be, I have 8mm movies of the painting of the Million Dollar vertical neon sign ( swing chair and crane ) from around 1982. They had us remove all the neon at that time and removed the sign some years later. In 82 most of the top floors of the building were vacant and in bad condition.

If anyone's interested in the LAHTF's monthly "All About..." theater tours, check the website ( It's usually the third Saturday of each month.

Or join us on Facebook: ... 723&ref=ts

There are lots of photos from previous tours, and videos, like a time lapse I put together out of 21 photos of the Belasco Theater under construction.
