Rally to Save La Ronda on Monday 8/31/09 4PM - Bryn Mawr PA

Postby Steve Tepperman » Sun Aug 30, 2009 4:37 pm

There will be a Save La Ronda rally at 4pm, Monday, August 31, at La Ronda (1030 Mt. Pleasant Road, Bryn Mawr, PA (see directions below). The rally is being organized by Save La Ronda Now and the Preservation Alliance for Greater Philadelphia.

The purpose of the rally is to publicly ask the owner of La Ronda that he do the responsible thing for the good of the community. The current owner may begin demolition of the 1929 Addison Mizner-designed, Spanish-Gothic style estate house as early as Tuesday, despite the fact he has he been presented with a credible plan to move the house to an adjacent lot which would still allow the owner to build a new McMansion on the original site.

We encourage all who care about the historical and cultural landscape of the Main Line and the Philadelphia region to attend the rally and to bring picketed signs with your heartfelt (but non-defamatory) message.

Follow the link
to let us know that you will be there.

Stand up and be heard! Join local media and concerned citizens Monday evening August 31, 2009 at 4pm as we make a direct appeal to the owner of La Ronda to preserve this magnificent home. Come to La Ronda at 1030 Mount Pleasant Road in Bryn Mawr on the eve of the day that demolition may begin and stand united with others as we attach a name to the mysterious owner. Tell the owner that destroying La Ronda is totally unacceptable. Local media will be there to cover this event. Please sign up here (you can do so anonymously) to show your support and to commit to attending. Please tell your friends. We would love to have at as many people there as possible to send the message that this community values La Ronda.

What could possibly be built on this property that would be more impressive that this place? To recreate this place would cost 10 times what some McMansion would. I guess money don't come with directions. I guess the real question is, why do people buy houses they don't want? Sure this is probably the nicest lot in the immediate area, that's why tis place is built there!
