Lautner's Carling House in JEOPARDY! URGENT!

Dear Lautner lovers,

A John Lautner Residential project, the Carling House is
in serious jeopardy of losing the splendid
framing of John Lautner's views & the spirit of this historic gem.

Please join us & let our voices be heard @ the public hearing
of the  Mulholland Scenic Parkway Design Review Board.


Date: Aug. 5, 2010

Time: 6:30 P.M.

Place: The Marvin Broad San Fernando Valley Constituent Service Center

Parking is  available after 6 pm at the Marvin Broad
Underground  garage.

Every person wishing to address the board must complete a speakers request
form, which is made available at the hearing & submitted to the staff.
 
As lovers of architecture we are to express our opposition to this project
as it would seriously compromise John Lautner's masterwork, The Carling
House.

The project as planned would destroy views from Mulholland and the Carling House. The Carling House was designed and set on its site with these views in mind. The project proposed is for over 3800 square feet including a second story in a neighborhood where the average square footage is 1800 square feet. Their current plan does not comply with the demands set forth by the Mulholland design review board. A formula of setting the second story back from the edge of the first story 11 feet. They have failed to do so.

The neighbor's addition would add a second story, designed by architect Francois Perrin. He is proposing the exterior be integrated into the landscape by covering the roof and walls with plants.

The neighbor is within height restrictions. The addition will only affect the city grid view in the downtown direction, but not interfere with the downtown sklyine. The west view toward Hollywood will not be affected.

What was the outcome of the meeting on the 5th? Was the issue of setting back the second story addition 11 feet from the first story addressed?
