There's a hearing this Wednesday, Oct 12th at 5pm in the 1st floor council chambers at City Hall (33 West Ocean Blvd) about the Second + PCH project that it proposed to replace the Seaport Marina.

The City Planning office has released a statement that they will agree to variances needed for the 16-story tower if it serves the public, such as a hotel.

While there's a lot of local press on this issue, the architectural significance of this building is not getting a lot of buzz. It is one of the largest examples of a Googie-style motel remaining in Southern California and there are many character-defining features in tact. Please attend the hearing on Wednesday to voice your opinion about this issue!

LONG BEACH - On a second split vote, the Planning Commission late Thursday night approved a site plan that would slightly reduce the scope of the hotly contested 2nd+PCH development.

The long-debated mixed-use development second+pch will appear before the Long Beach City Council on 12/21 and the LA Times takes the opportunity to recap the history of the development and its various opponents and supporters.

From the local paper. Apparently the biggest issue was the building heights.

Long Beach council rejects Second+PCH project

LONG BEACH — Hotly-contested plans to build a $320 million retail, hotel and residential complex by Alamitos Bay Marina were shot down Tuesday by the Long Beach City Council after almost six hours of debate.

A 3-5 vote declined to affirm zoning and regulatory changes for the project known as Second+PCH, which the Planning Commission had approved. The changes included lifting a 35-foot height restriction on structures to accommodate a 12-story condominium building.
