LA Times preservation article

Postby HappyBunny » Sun Jul 29, 2007 11:56 am

Well, it feels like better late than never... but hopefully this will bring attention to our past. As I read the article, I was struck by how many places have been lost since this was first discussed in 2001. The Ambassador, anyone?

This is amazing... I've got to admire their ambition taking on such a huge effort. Has anyone in L.A. done anything even remotely like this before? I'm really looking forward to checking out the Web site when it's up.

Yes, the Ambassador ... and what was the name of the building whose facade was featured in "Xanadu" ... yes, I admit that I like the movie but I LOVE that building ... is it gone, too?

When did the Pan Pacific burn? Are there any coffee table-type books out there with pix of it back in the day, along with current and lost L.A. architecture? What a shame that it's gone.

The Pan Pacific was a great Wurdeman & Becket building, wasn't it!

It was one of the best Los Angeles had to offer.

I still want to cry when I pass by.
While I glad for the replacement, it is better than nothing at all.
However, I still feel that the replacement only mocks me as it is so inferior to the original.
