Postby heximer » Wed Feb 23, 2011 9:37 am

Looking for mid century musts near Disneyland including motel/hotel rooms. Would like to hit some bars, restaurants, and shopping.
Thanks in advance.

The convention center on Katella is worth a look.

Would be helpful if you indicated what is "near" to you.

Are you renting a car or just planning to stay within the Anaheim trolley system?

I'm driving, so anything within an hour or so's drive.

There's a little tract of Cliff Mays right behind Disneyland, just west of Disney Way on Ball Road.

Is Hobby City still there?
I'm gonna keep on the run... I'm gonna have me some fun if it costs me my very last dime.
If I wind up broke up, well, I'll always remember that I had a swingin' time

Chris Jepsen definitely knows all the hidden secrets in OC; I've corresponded with him in the past and he's quite the treasure trove of good information on Orange County history.

M-M: Hobby City was still there when I drove by last year. Still seemed to be doing OK. I recall it was threatened with conversion into condos along with Adventure City, but that seems to have fallen through.

The Orange Eichlers are definitely worth a trip. Some interesting stores in downtown Orange while you're out there as well...not all MCM, but there are plenty of vintage shops, and the post office downtown is kinda neat to see but certainly isn't worth a trip on its own.

BTW, Clay, congrats on your new appointment out in Las Vegas. Very exciting!
