I never made the connection before, but part of the film 1941 is set at Pacific Ocean Park. I haven't seen 1941 in about 23 years, and I just read this fact in an old magazine.

I know someone who worked on the miniatures (including carousel horses for P.O.P.), and I'll try and find out how accurate the filmmakers tried to be. I know that miniature supervisor Greg Jein carved some dove-shaped boats for a tunnel of love, which was never used.

The latter was visited by Walt Disney when he was doing research for Disneyland. A few years ago KCET aired a compilation of home movie footage of it as part of a series about places in L.A. that don't exist anymore.

Also, issue 35 of the "E" Ticket magazine (website: www.the-e-ticket.com) has an article about it. The name of it was Dave Bradley's Beverly Park.

I co-wrote the POP article in the "E" Ticket - after all the various fires in the early 1970's, the Ocean Park Pier finally fell into the ocean... So there is nothing left - not even the pier. The original art directors for the park were very hurt that the owners kept changing & basically let the place fall apart... It was only open for 11 years! But it was a wonderful park while it existed. For more information on the "declining" years after it closed, there is some great footage in the film "Dogtown & Z-Boys".

I have added a Japanese Village section at Photos of the Forgotten thanks to some cool scans from Ross and other folks who were kind enough to send me them.

Isn't there a small remnant of the 'sky ride' that went over the bay, it like the remains of the posts that held up the ride that turned back to shore about where the Santa Monica Shores Apts. are now. I recall that amusement park. Went there once, dunno if we got pics tho but I remember the robot and something like Disney's/GE Carousel of Progress.
And I think a hall of mirrors maze.

Sure, we have a major amusement park in Denver. One that was really great once upon a time...until Six Flags came along to relocate and destroy it.

BUT, we still have this little gem from the past...

I've posted pix of the Alice in Wonderland fun house from Santa's Village (San Bernardino, CA) at my MySpace profile devoted to fun houses:

I've also posted a few pix of the M&Ms fun house in Las Vegas. (I only posted a few of this. It's still there, as far as I know, and I don't want to spoil it.)

If you're in Denver...or passing thru during the summer months...be sure to check out Lakeside. The park is celebrating its 100th anniversary this summer.

Great info and history in pictures and drawings here:

Awesome photos. I was hoping to visit Denver later this year... maybe if I'm lucky I'll get to visit this place!

Love the photo! I've been to Denver and saw many places. Sadly, I didn't make it there!
