Downtown Las Vegas Pictures...

Postby roadsidepictures » Sat Nov 26, 2005 10:51 pm

I've been working downtown the past few days. I've seen things I had never noticed before and thought I'd share them with you.

Lynn: Your neon "Office Entrance" sign is gone :( ...I tried to find out what happened to it, but nobody knew what I was talking about.

Lynn: Here you go:

The Fremont Drug sign is on the back of a market near the old police station. I'll try to find the fallout shelter sign...haven't seen one around town for quite a while. They're tearing down the old homes as fast as they can. I'm going to try to photograph as many as I possibly can.

Here are a few shots I took today. It was very windy and bitterly cold (39 degrees when I started shooting this morning)!

Alan,

I didn't know the LL garage was that old either.

By the way, there's another Fallout Shelter sign.

The one on the LL, unfortunately (fortunately?) was not the one that I was referring to.

It's closer to Fremont Street.

I'll have to see if I can find that picture!

There's so much to see in the downtown area! There are treasures on the side streets that everybody has forgotten about.

Trudi of Trudi Furs just shut her doors this past year after almost 45 years in biz.

She was on one of the episodes of Penn and Teller's Bulls***. She was the lady with the gun to protect her premises because you never knew who might come in.

E,

I agree, we have lots more exploring to do. Perhaps Alan will be our guide?

Funny, it works when I click on it. Maybe it's a difference in our computer systems.

I'm aways on Fremont St for the BUNKHOUSE [check it out on 124 S 11TH St (702) 384-4536] or the BEAUTY BAR [517 Fremont St (702) 598-1965] .....

I'm always downtown for the ARUBA [1215 Las Vegas Blvd S (702) 383-3100] or the ART BAR [ 1511 S. Main Street (702) 437-2787] .....

Check your local weeklies to see what is going on before walking in ....

AWESOME PICTURE OF PETER PAN MOTEL ......

Head East down Fremont St to where it meets with Eastern Ave [you'll see the back side of BLUE ANGEL MOTEL on passenger side] turn right on Eastern Ave, turn right on E. Charleston Blvd and go up 30 yards past the Carl's Jr on the corner [you'll see the front side of BLUE ANGEL on passenger side] .....

BLUE ANGEL MOTEL is known for it's tall BLUE ANGEL sign [designed by same Lady who did the WELCOME TO VEGAS SIGN] that looks like the blue faerie from Walt Disney's Pinnochio [the sign use to revolve back in the day] .....

The TAM-O-SHANTER across the street from Treasure Island had one of my favorite signs [that tartan hat] before it was purchased by the VENITIAN and S#*t canned .....

Alan,

Thanks for the shot of Sky Ranch. Development sooner or later (and probably sooner than we think) will come to that end of Fremont Street. I hope the neon museum is able to save the signs of the motels down there. If I ever win the lottery I would restore the Sky Ranch sign.

Did the Neon Museum get the sign for the old Clark Inn? The cocktails sign from "Green Shack"?

I noticed the "Tropicana Mobil Park" in your shot of the neon boneyard. I didn't even know it had come down—they're dropping like flies out there!

That whole section along TROPICANA from KOVAL [behind the MGM] to SWENSON [where UNLV proprty starts] is being torn down as the land is being prepared for use by either A) expansion of McCarren Intl Airport or B) expansion of the Las Vegas Monorail ........

No more white trash trailer parks & apartments will be visible from the Vegas Strip [but I still get a kick out of the neon RV Park sign by my Condo off of Boulder Hwy] .......

AWESOME post card of the BLUE ANGEL
