It's by Johnston Marklee and they have been holding big open house events there for weeks.

I see it on LiveLocal, and from what I see, there is nothing particularilt "spaceage", or at least Googie about it.

I think it's pretty damn sci-fi, but we are living in the future and all.

LA FORUM presents:

On the Map 2007: Extra Small Excess
Thursday, July 19 7:30pm
Helios House Corner of Olympic and Robertson

The Helios House is a high profile design project to "up-cycle" the BP brand from top oil producer to innovative environmentalist. Helios House is a gas station with all the typical components-cashier's kiosk, gas pumps, canopy, restrooms, billboard, bus stop, and landscape -- that has been rethought by architects at Johnston Marklee Associates in partnership with Office dA, an architecture firm in Cambridge, Massachusetts. The new design is LEED certified and is made from green materials with green infrastructure by green standards. The team was brought together by advertising giants, Ogilvy Mather B.I.G. The result is a concept design that transforms the usual "fill 'er up" passive activity into a consciously educational, emotional, and aesthetic experience. Principal, Sharon Johnston, will discuss Johnston Marklee's role in the project and the design.

If you drive to the event, please be sure to park on the surrounding streets. Parking is free after 6pm at the meters.
