although i heard the movie was not so hot - the idea still is...

i thought it would be fun to list the top places a TRUE Lotta Living Modernist should see at least once in their lifetime...

Please try to list as much information as you can about your MUST SEE places. i.e
what it is and where it is and perhaps WHY it should be seen at least once in a lifetime.

Disneyland - specifically the Tiki Room for first use of audio animatronics
Anaheim, CA

DisneyWorld - specifically The General Electric Carousel of Progress
Orlando, FL

Casa Bonita
Denver, CO
one of the most impressive fantasy restaurant interiors i have ever seen. i believe there is more then one of them, but i think the denver location is the original? please correct me if wrong.

roadside kitsch taken to extremes.

Seattle Space Needle
And site of the 1962 World's Fair

Unity Church and the surrounding homes

The Guggenheim
New York, NY

Pann's Coffee Shop

* Shady Dell RV Park and Dot's Diner

* Big Tex
dallas fairgrounds, TX
i hear he's a real big talker... and it's the ultimate county fair experience.

* Site of the Bauhaus?
does this even still exist?

----------------------------------------------------
i'm sure i have a few more - but curious to hear what others have to say... feel free to add to or embelish with your own thoughts to my postings

A couple for me:

Marin County Civic Center -- FLW

This is a private residence so I'll have to pull some strings somehow.

The new Jet Blue Terminal at JFK -- Saarinen
http://www.t508.com/

Airforce Academy Chapel -- Netsch / SOM
http://www.GreatBuildings.com/buildings ... Chapel.htm

Lovell Health House -- Neutra
http://bigorangelandmarks.blogspot.com/ ... house.html

Hoover Dam -- Gordon B. Kaufman

Falling Water -- FLW

Johnson Wax Building -- FLW

oh yeh - a totally MOVING experience for me to see...

airforce academy bldg.
colorado springs, co
Colorado Springs, Colorado, 1956 to 1962

definitely - one should experience a Lautner home once in a lifetime - with the arthur elrod, silvertop, chemosphere or wolff house - that's a definite experience. preferably to see ALL of them...

TWA terminal - i almost put this on my list - buti was getting so NYC heavy :-) but yeh - it's a must, too...

you know it's funny - here i am in vegas - and i have yet to see more then driving across the top of hoover dam.

And while visiting NYC: The Seagram building by Mies.

Image

Have lunch also inside at the Four Seasons Restaurant by Phillip Johnson.

Fallingwater is well worth the visit. The In Depth tour is the better choice for photography than the main tours.

It is a rather long drive from Pittsburgh. Especially if you make navigation mistakes on the horrible highways. It can take hours to get back on your route!

In Paris: the Unesco compound:

North of Paris in Poissy: The Villa Savoye by Corbusier:

And yes, the Hover Dam! Where else can you experience both claustrophobia and agoraphobia in the same place?
