Alexander Girad, Architect (and Interior Designer)

Postby scowsa » Mon Jan 10, 2011 5:02 pm

If you had previously asked me who Alexander Girad was, his "modern folkish" images would have come to mind, such as

so I was surprised to read in his dedicated section of The Story of Eames Furniture that he was an architect, as well as a "whole package" designer.

So I tried a LoL Search on him and found nothing. Then I searched elsewhere and this a well earned placeholder on LoL for a man who designed:

His own MCM home in Grosse Point, MI

which was apparently one of four MCM homes, like this

and who is also responsible for most of the famous Braniff look, those chairs obviously being Eames, a fellow designer in the Herman Miller stable.

You should check out the interior he did at the Miller house in Columbus, Ind. I think you'd like it.

Thanks. For the rest of LoL, here's the house, which was designed by Saarinen. That's a sunken conversation pit in the living room.
