available and good Historic Preservation class for everyone.

Hey friends, fellow ModCommers, and interested others--

I know I sent some of you on this already, but Jeff Samudio (busy and noted LA Historic Preservation person) will be teaching an Intro to Historic Preservation class at LA Trade Tech this Fall. He'd like to get a few more students, and being that I work with him I thought I'd help get the word out. It will cover all the basics and terminology, including how to write various nominations! The class is only $78.00 and if the money is an issue he is willing to help out with that as well. First class was last week, but people can still join (through September 10). The class will take place every Thursday evening from 6:00 to 9:00 pm, through the beginning of December. LA Trade Tech is on Washington and Grand, off grand just south of the 10 and downtown. Come by this Thursday (room D 330) if you want to join in. Call me at work if you have any questions on it: (323) 962-4585. And below is an excerpt from the syllabus.

See you soon,

The primary student goal is to have an elementary understanding of
Historic Preservation theory and its relation to Restoration techniques
for historic environments.

And the course objectives are five-fold:
1. To understand the worth of historic resources and the feasibility of
restoring them.
2. To use the Los Angeles region as a laboratory to observe and document
resources from different periods representing varied building types and
3. To have an understanding of the research techniques needed to identify
historic building fabric and to understand restoration or replacement
techniques for that fabric.
4. To appreciate and understand the restoration process for historic
structures from research, the design process, the planning
process, and :h: use of the Secretary of the Interior's Guidelines and Standards for work
on historic properties.
5. To understand the opportunities and constraints in adaptively using
historic buildings for future use.

Wow. Thanks for posting this. I was just going to post to ask if anyone knew of any classes or resources to learn about this exact stuff!

Do you know if he is allowing people to audit it (I think that's what its called when someone takes a class they're interested for no course credit) or if you have to go through the community college bureaucracy and take it for credit?
Wait, I should just give you a call, huh?

I think this class very helpful because of me some difficulties during the historic preservation topic. Class fees according to the marketing so reasonable for me and I will recommend my best friend because they need cheap but quality.

I like the focus of and appeal it has to educate us on the varied elements that existed in the past. TPO Roofing would be a great addition to this.
