http://www.borregomodern.com/

I will post more info as it becomes available. Home tour will include designs by Bill Krisel, Henry Hester, Richard Zerbe and others.

Cocktail reception to be held in the 1949 William Kesling designed Desert Club

For those of you who may not be familiar, Borrego Springs is a small desert oasis about 1.5 hours east of San Diego, 2.5 hours south of Los Angeles and about and hour south of Palm Springs. For a very small town it boasts a tremendous inventory of mid-century design. Check the site above for more information.

Hey, that sounds like fun! We're thinking about going. Any excuse to take the Jeep out to Anza-Borrego is a good one. Throw some swanky homes into the mix and it's a win-win.

But 2.5 hours from LA? I wish! It took me twice that last time I visited Borrego Springs.

Any good modern-themed motels to stay at out there?

There has been a Friday night reception (April 24th) added to the event. It will be held at The House of Borrego Springs. A display of architectural renderings and photographs of Borrego Springs mid-century design will be displayed.

We should have a full description of the event up in the next week or so.

I have been told by SOHO that tickets are sellling very well for this and many folks are coming in from LA and Palm Springs. Great news; I think it will be a very fun little event. Feel free to stop by and say hello. I will be at the Hester designed home in the morning and at the cocktail party on Sat night.

Since this is getting closer (this weekend!), I thought I'd kick it to the top of the pile.

The main page of the Borrego Modern site references an exhibit that runs from April 24 to May 31.

I didn’t see any other mention of what there is to do or see after this weekend, though. Does anyone know more about the ongoing exhibit?

Borrego Modern III

Postby modernvintage » Mon Apr 27, 2009 11:17 am

What a great time and tour. Many thanks to Bill Lawrence from www.BorregoModern.com and Elizabeth Rodriguez from The House of Borrego Springs. We especially liked the Henry Hester designed home on Catarina Dr at the De Anza Desert Country Club. Also thanks to SDmod and Keith York for putting it on his website www.modernsandiego.com otherwise I would never had known about the tour.

Very friendly folks in Borrego,
DW

Why Chimay "Bleue" there and not here? Are we not good enough for the good stuff!

Anyway, a funny thing happened to me on the way to Borrego Springs on Saturday. I stopped at a turnout on S22 to take photos of the view. When I opened the car door, a gust of wind blew in and made the inside of my car look like the movie "Twister." A couple of the maps I had pre-printed got sucked out and over the side so I didn't see all the things I planned to see there.

I wasn't going to take the tour - it was just a nice day for a drive - and I did make some pleasant discoveries which I would recommend to anyone driving there through Santa Ysabel.

1. This pretty mission is Santa Ysabel.
Image

2. A nice restroom stop at the Santa Ysabel Casino. But also, they still have $3 blackjack tables.

3. A sasquatch in Ranchita.
Image

4. Beautiful cactus flowers.
Image

If you make the drive, next weekend would be good. They are celebrating Dos de Mayo in Borrego Springs!
