"PAJAMA PARTY" COMEDY SHOWS AT THE HISTORIC GAYLOR

Postby Comickoz » Wed Jan 25, 2012 9:01 pm

WANT FREE PIE, QUALITY LAUGHS FROM NATIONAL STARS AND LA’S FINEST RISING TALENTS IN A HISTORIC SETTING, THE CHANCE TO ASK CRAZY QUESTIONS OF THE PERFORMERS YOU JUST LAUGHED AT, GENUINE ECCENTRIC ODDBALLS IN THE AUDIENCE AND HOSTS IN PAJAMAS?

CHECK OUT PAJAMA PARTY – LA’S SWINGIN’-EST, LOOPIEST, BEST-KEPT COMEDY SECRET!!!

(GAYLORD SHOWS ARE SECOND SUNDAY EACH MONTH - NEXT ONE FEB. 12 AT 8 PM. GRAB DRINKS AND DINNER AT THE HMS BOUNTY BEFORE AND AFTER!)

THIS SATURDAY AT WESTSIDE COMEDY THEATER, 1323-A THIRD STREET PROMENADE, SANTA MONICA AT 8 PM WE HAVE BRIAN SCOLARO ["CONAN", TWO NETWORK SITCOM CASTS], JAY DAVIS [LAUGH FACTORY, HBO'S "TOURGASM"], DAVE ROSS [HOLY F***], JOSH NASAR [IMPROV, COMEDY STORE], MATTHEW HARRIS [I.O. WEST'S "TOP STORY WEEKLY"] AND THE INDESCRIBABLE ANDY KAUFMAN-ESQUE JASON FEVER! ALL FOR JUST $5!)

There are literally thousands of comedy shows that take place in Los Angeles each year, but only one takes place in the swank lobby of a historic hotel that Richard Nixon once lived in after resigning in disgrace and that countless Hollywood stars used as a crash pad for their illicit dalliances. That wild, anything-goes spirit lives on with the PAJAMA PARTY comedy talk show, hosted by CARL KOZLOWSKI (winner of the “America’s Funniest Reporter” contest at the world-famous Laugh Factory) and ADAM GROPMAN (an LA Weekly reporter who’s also a veteran comic at the Improv and clubs nationwide) on the second Sunday evening of each month at the GAYLORD APARTMENTS, 3355 WILSHIRE BLVD. in Los Angeles.
The dynamic comic duo also host a second version of PAJAMA PARTY at 8 p.m. on the final Saturday of each month at the WESTSIDE COMEDY THEATER, 1323-A THIRD STREET PROMENADE in SANTA MONICA. Both shows feature the hosts wearing pajamas (actually Carl in jammies and a robe, and Adam in a Chinese silk suit straight outta Chinatown), plus an assortment of comedic and musical guests who perform before being pelted by the hosts and their audience members with funny (and serious) questions based on the sets they just performed. And as if that isn’t enough, they offer Gaylord show attendees free pie! (Well, sometimes other delectable baked goods instead.)
But despite being repeatedly praised in the LA Weekly and chosen as an LATIMES/BRAND X PICK OF THE DAY, the hosts aren’t resting on their laurels. They are launching BOLD IMPROVEMENTS with their upcoming shows, THIS SATURDAY JAN 28 AT THE WESTSIDE, and SUNDAY FEB 12 at the GAYLORD!
Adding swinging Rat Pack classics to the booming sound mix along with a rotating array of the city’s foxiest and funniest female comics including ALLI BREEN, MARIA SHEHATA and RENEE GAUTHIER as comedic sidekicks, and letting the audience ask the performers questions after their comedy sets, plus asking every comic performer to wear their jammies or nighties on stage, PAJAMA PARTY will be more exciting and funny than ever!
“This all started as a one-off, low-key talent show for artistic Gaylord residents,” says Kozlowski, who lives in the apartment located directly above the shows, recalling his first PJ Party show at the Gaylord in November 2010. “But people liked it so much I was immediately asked by the building manager to keep them going, and 13 months later it’s the center of my comedy career.
“Who knew that a show that attracts a narcoleptic woman who never says a word but instead inspires comics to make impromptu jokes while she hangs her mouth open in Slack-jawed wonder,” continues Kozlowski. “Or a bowlegged autistic man who repeats the jokes under his breath as incessantly as Rainman, as well as apartment residents, random Wilshire passers-by, drunken customers from the HMS Bounty bar next door seeking the Gaylord lobby’s bathrooms, could become a comedy sensation?”
Indeed it has, thanks to such prime moments as the night headlining comic BIL DWYER (6-time “Tonight Show” guest and host of Comedy Central’s “Battlebots”) was interrupted mid-performance by an octogenarian woman Gaylord resident who stopped to ask “What the F*** is going on here?” and kept complaining about the noise with language befitting a sailor until Dwyer finally calmed her with a plate full of treats, displaying the impromptu serving skills of a Musso & Frank waiter.
“It was the first –and God willing, ONLY – time I’ve ever had to feed an audience member,” recalls Dwyer.
Between top-notch national comedy stars like RYAN STOUT (“Conan,””Chelsea Lately”), BARRY ROTHBART (“Tonight Show”), Dwyer, and Eddie Pepitone; the absolute best in cutting-edge rising stars like the WALSH BROTHERS (LA WEEKLY”S 10 TO WATCH LIST), killer locations, amazing performance spaces, and delicious snacks, you simply can’t go wrong!
“In my decade plus of performing comedy in Los Angeles, I’ve never seen another show where a drunk Asian man regularly wrestles a box of cookies from another audience member and proceeds to hand them out while the Walsh Brothers seamlessly incorporate them into their set,” says Gropman. “And it’s not just the Gaylord. Everyone knows the Promenade is packed with unpredictability. Seriously – these are shows you have to see to believe.”
The Pajama Party is hosted at 8 p.m. on the second Sunday of each month in the lobby of the Gaylord Apartments, 3355 Wilshire Blvd.,Los Angeles. Admission is free. (213) 389-4161.
Pajama Party is also hosted at 8 p.m. on the final Saturday of each month at the Westside Comedy Theater,1323-A Third Street Promenade, Santa Monica. www.westsidecomedy.com. (310) 451-0850.
