The Velaslavasay Panorama is pleased to welcome back collector, historian and media archaeologist Professor Erkki Huhtamo, who will present two magic lantern spectacles for the edification and entertainment of Los Angeles audiences. By means of a magnificent Victorian biunial magic lantern that once belonged to his great-grandfather, himself a professor and polymath, Professor Huhtamo will tell the story of his accomplished forefather's adventurous life. An optical scientist and amateur astronomer, the elder Professor Huhtamo had his share of rare experiences: he scaled the formidable Mont Blanc, observed the transit of Venus, and was stuck in ice for an entire winter as a member of a polar expedition.

Professor Huhtamo will be assisted by his daughter Margareta, an aspiring magic lantern showwoman and talented lantern slide painter, and her husband Olof, an accomplished musician and distinguished sound effects artist. The combination of expressive aural effects with spectacular visuals produced by the Professor’s authentic dual-projection lantern, the pinnacle of 19th-century magic lantern technology, will occasion an exceptional storytelling entertainment that is rare indeed, and ought not be missed.
