Oh man, Greg,

Rebel Without a Cause (a Wilshire Blvd link, do you know it?)

A Star is Born with Judy and James Mason

The Black Pirate with Doug, Sr (would have preferred Robin Hood, but hopefully it's the print with the early two stripe technicolor)

and Harolyd Lloyd.

Can't wait to see what theatres are participating!

Damn,

I really wanted it to be Doug Sr.

Though, the restored "Mark of Zorro" is quite nice. I saw it last year. But Ty is no Doug, Sr.

And the restored "Black Pirate" in two stripe Technicolor is heavenly.

Oh well, a girl can dream.....

But Judy and James Mason (extra long on the a in Mason) on the big screen in the restored "Star", please tell me its a good theatre? I haven't seen that "Star" on the big screen since it premiered twenty odd years ago at LACMA when Ron Haver was in charge of both the film screenings and the restoration.

It was used in the 1950 Classic
"Sunset Blvd."
the former former Getty Mansion
In fact, it was torn down not to long after the filming or Rebel was finished.....

Postby losfeliz » Sat Feb 25, 2006 4:34 pm

Apropos Rebel, I just saw Nicholas Ray's Bigger than Life (1956) in which James Mason plays a diseased schoolteacher {James Mason connection to A Star is Born, get it ???} and could not help but notice that the little boy in the James Mason family wears the iconic red baseball jacket Jimmy D. wears in Rebel. Cheers, Debra L.

A Star is Born also has a Wilshire connection, and it's quite blatant.
Guesses?

It may look like X, but it's not X. The studio actually rebuilt X on a soundstage for the film, but were able to hold the movie's premiere party there. I'll see if I can dig up the photos to share.

Bad news kids..........
We won't be able to use the Million Dollar Theatre this year. :(
I just received this e-mail from the head office downtown.

Here is an excerpt:

Unexpectedly, we have had to make a last minute change to the LRS schedule. When we did the technical walkthrough of the Million Dollar Theatre, it came to our attention that there might be a problem with the fire stairs and exiting for the theatre. After working with the owners and consulting a structural engineer, it became clear that the theatre needed more structural work to enable us to use it for the series and it would not be able to be completed in time for us to use the theatre on June 28th.

So now the June 28th screening will be taking place at the Los Angeles Theatre instead of the Million Dollar Theatre.
