Postby Slim and Gabby » Thu Dec 18, 2008 8:42 am

Tim-that color projector is really swell. Looks way better than a wheel.
Is it vintage? What is the manufacturer? LOVE it.
Pen-gu-ins is pracatically chickinz, and I hates to see chickinz cry so much, I has to put’em outta ther mizzery!

Here is the house:

Here are some ornaments on our tree:

The top row are Jewel-brite ornaments and the lower ones are wooden ornaments, mostly from Taiwan and Japan.

It is vintage. Like the tree, it's made by Evergleam. You're supposed to put a 150 watt indoor spot light in it, and the heat from the bulb comes up through the vents and turns the colored part. I couldn't find a 150 watt spot light, and the 100 watt I found didn't generate enough heat, so I got a 125 watt heat lamp and that did the trick. It's an eBay find. I think it was called a turbo 4-color projector. I got a smaller version for my daughter's small Christmas tree as well. Evergleam also makes a really cool color projector that you put the tree in and it rotates the entire tree, but they seem to be going for several hundreds of dollars, so I passed on that one.

Here's our outside Christmas decorations:

Wish I'd taken a bit more time to get a better shot, but night shots are difficult with my point and shoot. We obviously went pretty traditional, but we didn't have a budget for new lights. Next year will hopefully be groovier.

Thanks Slim and Gabby. We love looking at your pics, it's like a Where's Waldo of MCM "Ooh they have one of those" "Wow what's that! We need one!"

Went wild with the hot glue gun and made a bunch of atomic pendant lights with plastic cups and Xmas lights; then, hung them on the Almond tree in the front yard (makeshift Xmas tree).

It's hard to get good pictures at night without flash, but these give an idea of the project results (looks much better in person). I'll try to get some sunset pics later on.

Very cool, Miguel. Yet another thing you've done that I like. And seemingly on the cheap, too!

Miguel,

Great project. Would love some details on how exactly you fabricated these.

Cheers,

fantastic miguel.
I've made those as well.
The trick is to get cups with the right flair from base to top.
I first drilled mine in stacks. I used a softer frosted cup, then stapled
together. The drill bit chosen to hold each small string light...
Glue gun sounds a bit easier.
And the cups you used are easy to find.
(i first saw them in a bar in memphis across from Ernistine and Hazels)

This year, i tinted some china balls. The tissue type from Pearl River.
Three coats of poly. The colors are much nicer in person.
(i miss my cups though. I had to cancel my travel plans due to the
weather... :( they sit yet another year in the attic of my vacation home)

cool link in SL

Postby Slim and Gabby » Tue Dec 23, 2008 2:00 pm

Wilbur-
nice room you have there. LOVE the colors, and the tree is jsut great- doesn't dominate.

Great link to the ridgecrest site. Those five star plans look plenty familiar to a Californian. The home there is quite similar to our 1200 sf kit home. Not sure whose kit it was, though. Except for a slightly different config in front, different windows and a 2nd bath, it's very similar to our house.

Nice to see the midwest stuff!

Miguel always does cool stuff to make you awe over.

Nathan, the room looks great. Dig the new couch. Where did you find the tree? It looks like a 7'? Oh yeah, we need to meet sometime. We live too close to each other not too.

It's been around for many years - they used to hang up at Chris' Pizza House at Toco Hills in Atlanta - with the inch of dust that was on them (even the first time I went in over 10 years ago) I'd say they were put together in the 80s.
