Hey wow, great find! And, for personal reasons...how timely!

We're buying a P&K in the SF Valley that is nearly identical to the Plan A. I was remarking to myself earlier today how nice it would be to have a copy of the floor plan to that house.

I always love perusing through old stuff like this. Got any more?

ask any PS real estate agent - P&K homes take top top dollar in palm springs!

we are proud owners of a P&K in las vegas... where you can literally pick them up for a freeeeking STEAL!!!!! (i am not kidding about this)

for instance: here's a bank owned foreclosure ON THE Old Stardust GOLF COURSE is going for 250k right now!!!
of course it's been remuddled a bit - but the bones are still there.

check zillow for the area: (you have to copy and paste this link...)
http://www.zillow.com/search/RealEstate ... n:36129778)&mode=(zoom:15)

buy yourself a P&K vacation home in vegas - you won't be disappointed.
(you may end up moving and going on a restoration rampage here like we did!) we'd love the company by the way :-)

Interesting Notes....

Postby Stephen » Sun Jan 27, 2008 8:35 am

The brochure is definitely interesting. Some things of note:

- Am I the only one who finds is odd that they mention "4 color-matched appliances" about 10 times? Was this like the Viking Range of the 50s?
- There are no square footages listed on the floorplans.
- Was this one of the earliest examples of multiple elevations for the same floorplan?

Also, there is a matter of the location. I know Pomona reasonably well but Arroyo no longer intersects with Holt. In fact, the map in the brochure predates the 57, 71, and most of the 210 freeways. However, I took a look at some satellite imagery around where I thought the houses "should be." I think these homes are easy to spot because of the long rectangular shape with detach garage. I believe they are on the following streets:

Leebe Ave, Cathy Ave, Dupont Ave, Ashton Ave, Barjud Ave, Randy St, Lombard St, and Celia St

It seems to be a pretty good-sized neighborhood.

Bill Krisel is an amazing guy... I really like him. Here's a recent interview:

The brochure is terrific. I think pushing the appliances had a dual sales effect: 4 expensive appliances included means less to buy and "color coordinated" appeals to the lad-eeeez.

Well

Postby modfan » Sun Jan 27, 2008 12:28 pm

Now that tract is bordered by freeways and sad to say it's got guard bars on windows and lotsa fences around the yards so that tells ya something.
Dunno of any real improvement the boom/now bust of the re market I'll bet didn't affect it very much. Wonder if the 'VALWOOD entry sign wall is still there or if it was graffitied over or car ran into it. Like Aimee in the 'Love One' said 'poor house' (?) not slide down the hill but could get burgled.
Too bad there are'nt a critical mass of modernist wanna be home owners out there who could start snapping up these now, they are probably pretty cheap.
And it could then turn around like the Palm Springs P and K's did, but then again ya never know.

More P&K

Postby streinen » Sun Jan 27, 2008 6:14 pm

Not to get off topic, but I found this ad for a P&K tract in Reseda while doing some unrelated research. Thought the P&K crowd might like to see it:

So, I think after that summary, I'll volunteer someone else to go and take some photographs of the neighborhood! :?

On the other hand, I wonder how many of the original residents would say the same thing about how some of the other MCM neighborhoods currently are these days. While most of the tracts in the SF Valley are at least OK, I do remember the heartbreak of coming across a really cool cluster of Fickett homes in the Sylmar/San Fernando area, only to drive out there and discover I was terrified to even stop the car.

It's certainly logical that areas of modestly-sized homes would become less desirable as they got older...and, well, much like San Fernando, Pomona never seemed to me like it would rank very high on the gentrification list.
