Definitely an odd one. The listing says the location is Dallas, TX but they don't give the client name. According to the Lamprecht book there was a Neutra designed house in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area. I did a quick scan from 1949-1953 I didn't see it. I'm too tired to search the whole, huge book.

Also, they say the house has been vacant for the last 30 years?! How on earth would this be possible?

Maybe it's just Texas that is odd. I understand that there is a William F. Cody house outside of Houston that also has not been occupied in 30 years. But now it's being restored.

Wish they had more and better pictures on their ebay listing.

Interesting. The e-bay store info for the seller says he/she specializes in vintage finds in the LA area, but it shows the house and two items (an Eames chair and another piece) with locations in Dallas, TX.

And there is a good bit of negative/non-positive feedback (no contact as a buyer, wanting to withdraw an auction as a seller). Most transaction appear to be as a buyer. The whole thing seems a bit odd to me.

So I just found out termites and ants are hanging out on my roof today in 2 inch deep moss, dirt, puddled water, and obviously into the house. I have no idea if this is covered by insurance being that I'll bet I need to replace something down close to the membrane. Will never be able to afford this. I hate previous cheapass owners of the house who skimp by on all the seriously important issues. I guess I'll have one of these posts up on ebay for my house. Is it legal? I like the sound of helping scott & amber out rather than this unoccupied texas home......if it even exists

The Email on the Ebay listing is the same as a Member of this website. I remember that they had a home for sale in Garden Grove and sold some Furniture. Maybe they moved to Dallas

Help me restore my Platner Lounge Chair! The Platner Lounge chair is important, and the foam inside has gotten hard over the years. I'm happy to share the importance of this chair with anyone who donates $25 for its restoration. In fact, those who donate will be listed in a "publication" about its restoration and importance. Donations of more than $25 are greatly appreciated as the cost of restoration by a Knoll specialist is $1500.

Also, I sell stuff on eBay. My address is in Texas, but items are located in places like Iowa and Zambia.

Rather than clucking around like some old hens...has someone asked the seller these questions? I did...I'll post the answer if I get one. (It does sound a little fishy eh?)

And here is the reply...
HI, we are in Iowa, the house is in Iowa, yes we were just made aware that the listing shows Dallas for some reason. I will go and edit it today. Yes we moved from Orange County and are doing our best to restore our home! Thanks, if you have anymore questions, please feel free to ask, we happy to have a sense community with such a huge project!

Seems to be the Everest House?

The e-bay listing is a bit odd. Just seems rushed. More information
and clearly defined would be helpful. (the 'free shipping' logo
and the multiple exclamations are confusing.) seems frantic. I hope
they are not in over their heads and in trouble.

I've seen some creative fundraising, just needs to be better designed.
More photos, link to a website?

10 people responding could get a jump start on the roof, the most
important part of saving a house.

Yes, it is a creative approach if not a poorly executed one. I also wonder if eBay allows donation solicitations this way since they aren't really "selling" anything (unless your name in a book counts). Speaking of which, it's just odd that they don't provide a more compelling reason to donate. How about the name/location of the house, their purchase of it, a bit of social history on the place, current condition report, etc?

I would still like to know how this house has managed to sit unoccupied for 30 years. Now that's a story I might pay $25 to hear... :|

Thank you for clarification. That is what i was thinking.
I considered and was planning to e-mail their e-bay listing.
I was just trying to get a hold of the odd desperation.

I finally pulled out the Complete Works. The address as given is 200 West 45th Street, Sioux City. I tried an aerial view but wasn't sure if I could identify the house.

Hello Ron and Gia,

I think that people here at Lotta Living wish you the best in trying to take care of your Neutra house. But I also detect some frustration about the lack of real information about the house. Is it in Texas? Or in Iowa?, for example.

Your cause would be better served if you would post pictures and dialogue about the house on this forum. People have grown cautious about making donations to ill-defined causes. Gus Brown and the Ennis "brown" house comes to mind. Where did all that money go, anyway?

I, for one, look forward to reading about your house, its history, and your plans for it.

Pictures would be good and we could get a dialogue going on the board.

The Neutra,

Postby rgemory » Sun Jun 15, 2008 8:24 pm

Hi again, and thanks!
We are trying to restore this home in Sioux City... We pulled the ebay listing after learning that it posted our location in Dallas. We don't understand it either. We plan to Post another listing; but want to respect the privacy of the original owner who is our dear friend. It is the Everist House. We purchased the home from him, and it is where he raised his family. We believe Mr. Everist is 93. He knew R. Neutra personally, and had Neutra here on several occasions visiting. We are hoping it will be eligible for the National Registry by the end of 2008 as well as recognition by DNA with Dion Neutra. Now this is our home, we are very humble and grateful to be here with our children, and look forward to the experience of life in this home again after 27 years of vacancy. We feel that we would like to restore Mr. Everist's memories here as well as the structure. We are hoping for support because their is much needed work to be done.
We have been working the heart of the home-furnace etc. and now we are putting together roof funds.
Best Regards, Ron and Gia

If you have any more questions, please email us and we will send you information.
