we still have some moldings to do and we have yet to even tackle the moving of the lighting on the ceiling and scraping the ceiling. I know its backwards but we won't get to that until the first of the year...

Your kitchen looks terrific! You have done a beautiful job! Do you have any before pictures?

i know i have some before pics around here. it was a very dingy little early 80s kitchen and there was a wall between the kitchen and the living that we removed.
Ill look for them...

Good job! We're in the very early planning stages for our kitchen and posts like this inspire me. We're going with Ikea cabinets (yours are Ikea?) and I always love to see a finished example.

yes, ikea.(except for the island, we reused our old cabs and painted it with new countertops which are also ikea. ) thank you, i really like the hardware on the ikea cabs, it is sooo nice when you are used to old sliding hardware. Especially love the tall pull out pantry next to the fridge. it holds a ton.
For the money, you can not beat ikea on quality.

Thanks for sharing. Interesting--and daring--juxtaposition between the new and old cabinetry! I wouldn't have thought it would work...but it certainly seems to! I too love the backsplash.

I've been very pleased with my Ikea cabinets and am sure you will be as well.

I like how you used just a bit of the mosaic. I've had in mind to do the same when we redo the kitchen but wasn't sure how it would look. I think the kitchen looks great.

thanks greenmod. i love the backsplash, mdh is the credit for it. now that we grouted it, it looks even better. thanksgiving was great. 15 people and it didnt seem crowded with 5 milling about in the kitchen trying to prepare. butcher block is holding up nicely so far... wine stains wiped right off.

deagna - can you tell me where you got your kewl dining chairs?

....and were they expensive or affordable?

We got them from West Elm. I think they were $150 ea or $100 ea if you buy 4, which we did. We got our big living room rug there too.

It was a splurge.
