Very Nice. Wish my first house was this nice. It took me to number three to come anywhere near your place.

Tell me about your sofa...

Congrats on finding a super nice place...and so glad someone who appreciates that special kitchen found it!

I notice you have the same Western Holly oven that Slim is in the process of restoring for us now. Do ask him if you need help with any of it. I think he got some parts for the clock in LA.

Can't wait to see more...

Welcome to the neighborhood! I am curious to know how the 2nd story addition is incorporated into the floor plan.

I'm going to answer, based on what I can see in the photos and remember from the listing photos. That place was a four bedroom model with the large part (living kitchen Jack & Jill bedrooms) across the lot. The master would have had it's gable facing the street. The garage was sideways, with a curved driveway.

So the second story is an entire addition, including the garage underneath. I remember from the listing photos that there is a space between the garage and the master that has the stair to upstairs.

The original garage is now finished as living space as a separate structure.

My house on Pattiz has had a similar changes, only I don't have the room over the new garage.

squeaky, is there a door into the house from the garage/stair room? Where is the laundry?

Thank you everyone for the kind comments. It has been a hectic first week a the house but well worth it. We are loving the house!

I figured that the 2nd story addition would get commented on. The 1st owner of the house added a garage and added another story on top it. It is nice to have the extra space, although it is not true to the period. The original detached garage is now a rec room. I hope to turn it into a home theater at some point.

The sofa was inspired by a photo I saw here in one of Classic Form's post. I had it custom made at Room Service in LA. Although a little pricey, the quality turned out to be quite good. Although I did have doubts midway through the process. Getting something like that made was nerve wrecking. You really have to have trust in the company who's making it.

The kitchen is quite original! I was lucky to find the vintage GE fridge to go with it on ebay of all places. Next on my list is installing a dishwasher.

For now, we are not doing anything major to the house. We are going to heed everyone's advice and live in it for a bit before deciding what to do.

I am so happy to have found a wonderful group of folks who are so knowledgeable about all things MCM! I have been reading all the home improvement posts over the past year and I can't wait to start restoring the house!

My gosh egads! That's quite good! It is what you described exactly. Yes, the garage, storage area and the house are all connected by 2 doors.

The laundry area is now in the garage. The seller installed a gas line for us so that we can have a gas dryer. There was an electric dryer there originally but the plug for it is nowhere to be found. As a matter of fact, we couldn't find the plug for it anywhere in the house.

For those of you in the LB area, please feel free to PM me if you would like a tour of my house. I would love to have some feedback on what we could do to improve the house and information on resources.

Thanks![/quote]
