Ok. Enough people have griped at me for posting about updates on my blog that this is going to be the official update thread for the site.
When you see this thread at the top I have more than likely updated the site.
I have updated the site today - hope all is well.

I just added a new poll asking what kind of flooring we should put down in the den - drop by and vote! The poll is on the top on the right. Thanks, your answers will be taken into consideration in our decision process.

The survey's criteria seems to be cost? A better one would take into account what architects call the "program" i.e. how will the room be used?
That can effect the desirability of given flooring options.
Here are my main floor criteria:
Keeping levels aligned at doorways & adjacent rooms. I find thresholds in interiors unacceptable. (maybe to a tiled bath) But never in rooms that you see the sweep across visually. Not to mention the whole tripping thing. A threshold just looks like a bandage over a mistake.
Color and value. Remember, interior design wise, the floor is background. It should blend visually. If one wants pop, an area rug does that better.
In your case that kind of points to a honey warm tone.
I think I might vote cork, but like I said, a post on your blog fleshing out the use of the space would be helpful.

Just updated the blog - please drop by and please vote on the new poll to the right!
To answer an earlier question about 'keeping money in mind' regarding the poll, what I meant was that this is not a super high end house so we are looking for the best and most cost effective way to re-do the flooring that doesn't over improve the house for the area. Thanks for your interest!
The blog is updated at last!

Considering the various previous floors you have now exposed, I'd consider using one of the click together products. Developed for laminate flooring, you can now get it with hardwood & cork faces. I have a friend who did his kitchen in cork in an afternoon with that stuff. To use VCT or cork tiles (for instance) the subfloor has to be perfect or every imperfection transfers through. The product my friend used had a bottom layer of plain imperfect cork for cushioning, a thin layer of plywood for stability and a top layer of cork prefinished. When pricing out all your options, don't forget than some cheaper materials will need glue for under and finish on top. That can make an easy to install floating floor that seems expensive, not really so.

Just wanted to say that I've updated the blog - wall colors and the bamboo flooring has been installed. Thanks for everyone's feedback and I look forward to sharing more improvements. Have a great Mother's Day weekend!
