Book: The Complete CSH Program

Postby robbhouston » Wed Oct 19, 2011 10:34 am

Hey all,

I just received my copy of The Complete CSH Program book out by Taschen. Wanted to pass on, this thing is amazing. First off, it's huge, 12.5"x16"x2". Over 400 pages long, hard bound, it must weigh 20LBS. If you ever wanted a definitive publication on the Case Study House Program, this must be the front runner. I have a couple of other books on the subject, and they're great. But this one has lots and lots more... of everything. Photos I'd not seen before, more architectural plans, including things like elevations and such I'd not seen before. Large prints of hand drawn perspectives with hand written notes along the edges. They're so large, it's possible they're close to the actual drawing sizes. Just tons of material. Here's a few not so great photos (I tried), just to give you an idea...

Those images don't do it justice. One final comment about the size of the photos...It really does make a difference. Even though I'd seen some of them before (and just as many, if not more, that I hadn't), seeing them this large you can make out details like a vase on a bookshelf or a cabinet pull you might not have noticed before. Very vivid!

Anyway, it's kinda pricey ($140.00 at Amazon), but worth every penny, IMO.

if you like big books, try 'Neutra Complete Works' with the birch cover. more floor plans than you can shake a stick at. I do still need the CHS one.

New Eichler book out?

Curbed LA just posted a map of the LA-area Case Study houses.

Its missing the Bass House (Altadena) and maybe others.
