ATOMIC RANCH - the hardcover!!!

Postby Futura Girl » Thu Sep 07, 2006 7:33 pm

i don't know if this has been announced yet or not?
moderators - i did a search - honestly i did :)

ATOMIC RANCH "THE BOOK"
by Michelle Gringeri-Brown, Jim Brown (Photographer)

http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/1423600029/ll-20

Atomic Ranch is an in-depth exploration of post-World War II residential architecture in America. Mid-century ranches (1946-1970) range from the decidedly modern gable-roofed Joseph Eichler tracts in the San Francisco Bay area and butterfly wing houses in Palm Springs, Florida, to the unassuming brick or stucco L-shaped ranches and split-levels so common throughout the United States.

chb -- if you're who I think you are, we owe you a huge thanks for letting us shoot your place 'way back in September 2003: You helped us get started. I'd hoped Gibbs Smith would have used the exterior for the cover or frontispiece; oh well, we had limited control over the process. Still, your house is very special to us. Hope I've got the right person; if not, forget what I just said!

Hey Atomic Ranch Editor, is there any advantage as a net to you of buying it through your site as apposed to Amazon. In other words, it's going to cost us all the same in any case, do you get more by having us buy it somewhere in particular?

Atomic Ranch Editor...yes, you got the right person. It was a pleasure working with both of you, and I'm happy things have gone so well. When you're in So. Cal., drop a line if you'd like to visit again (the house has undergone a lot of fine tuning since 2003). Good luck with your new abode and continued success with Atomic Ranch.

Where to begin? To texasdago -- your dining room/living room is the opening spread (p.89) for the chapter 'Modest Makeovers'. Other Benders appear throughout the book, plus a few paragraphs of quotes in the final chapter on preservation.
To egads -- We're just flattered if people buy the book, so find your best source.

We love the picture of the living/breakfast room. Thank you!!!

Of course, since you visited, we started working on the front room and filling it with more modern pieces. We also redid the bathroom to be more MCM-friendly... from a terrible pink bathroom with hideous wallpaper and old sheet linoleum to...

Still have a few things to finish but we're getting there. The front door is next.
