calling Saarinen tulip table owners: is rilsan finish tough?

Postby VeryCarrie » Sun Jul 10, 2005 7:07 pm

Hi --

I'd appreciate hearing from anyone who owns a Saarinen tulip table about how durable the "tough, abrasion-resistant rilsan finish" on the table base really is.

I've seen a few scuffed-up white bases, but I don't know if that's because they just haven't been cleaned up, or whether the scuffs can't come out without damaging the finish further/differently. We're considering a black base, but durability would remain an issue because it would be our everyday table.

Has your tulip table base held up well to lots of daily wear?

I don't have a Saarinen table, but since no one has answered you I will give my experience with rilsan. I have a set of 4 Bertoia chairs used as a dining set. They have held up very well. The only scuffs were on the bottom of the base and that was there when I bought them used. The previous owner did not use the glides on the floor. Everything else is perfect. I assume they use the same Rilsan being that they are both Knoll products.
