Book: Builders' Homes For Better Living (Jones/Emmons 1957)

Postby robbhouston » Wed Jul 11, 2012 2:40 pm

Hey all,

I just received my copy of the Book: Builders' Homes For Better Living (Jones/Emmons 1957). It's still available out there on Amazon for around $150. It's just great! Really gets inside the heads of the authors & architects, A. Quincy Jones & Frederick E. Emmons. Covers their principals and approaches to, not just architecture, but also....gardens and landscaping, building materials, basic home layout schemes, community planning, on & on, etc, etc... It's really an a-z of how they came up with their designs, and how they wanted to assist builders to create smartly designed neighborhoods. Lots of great photography and wonderful vintage hand-drawn perspectives and floor plans.

I highly recommend it for fans of their work.

If I wind up broke up, well, I'll always remember that I had a swingin' time

jonu: Yeah, I know. Crazy expensive. There were some for even more than that on Amazon. But they were described as "Used - Collector" instead of "Used - Good", which is what I ordered. The more affordable copies were going fast, on Amazon that is. If anyone's interested, I'd act sooner than later.
