I'm a little late to the bathroom vanity thread, but wanted to share what we did with ours as it seems related. We couldn't afford a full tear-out and re-do, so we had new custom doors & drawer fronts made. Also pulled the old plate mirror and filled the space with a birch panel, then mounted a mirrored medicine cabinet on top of it. Also installed a light box above. All the new woodwork was finished in amber shellac, which helped pull it all together. Relatively inexpensive, but a pretty good over-all effect...
Before (w/previous owners bath items, wall art & window treatment)...
After...
I must say, I really love Chimay's vanity...it's awesome!

Re: Bathroom Vanities etc
Wow, old thread. Here's a our bathroom in a 1961 mid-mod. We simply replaced bath cabinet doors and draw fronts. Had a cabinet maker construct and in stall, although I got stuck the the shellacking duties...

Best of luck!
