This hotel, called the Hotel Antumalal, was built in 1950 in the idyllic little resort town Pucon, in Chile's Lake District, about a 10 hour drive south of Santiago. The Antumalal was designed and built by architect Jorge Elton, a student of FLW, as a low-slung hotel that blends into 5 acres of truly beautiful gardens, at the foot of a smoking volcano. The hotel has been impeccably maintained over the years, including the original string-and-wood furniture, goat skin rugs, tree-trunk tables, and wooden slabs that cover most of the walls (www.antumalal.com).
