google doodles

There's a really great interactive Google Doodle today for Les Paul's 94th birthday:

http://www.google.com/logos/2011/lespaul.html

I started looking through the index of Google Doodles and found these that might be of interest to Lotta Livingites:

I probably missed a few, so please look through the index yourself:

And here's another really good interactive one for the road:

Today's Google Doodle (July 22) is for Alexander Calder's 113th birthday. It's not in the archive yet, so if you want to see it today, just go to google.com.

It's a scriptable rendering of a Calder-like mobile (I assume it's not an actual Calder since it spells out google) so I'm not sure if there will ever be an image that I can simply paste here.

Quick! Click this before it disappears:

Today's doodle is for Art Clokey's 90th birthday ... that is if you keep counting after he died. But, in any event, it's a cool interactive doodle with Gumby, Pokey, Prickle, Goo and a couple of Block Heads.

Gumby is not in the archive yet, but I did see these recent ones that I liked for Lottta Living:

This one is for Lucille Balls's 100th:
http://www.google.com/logos/2011/lucilleball.html
You have to go to the above for the full effect, but here's the tv image:

Roberto Burle Marx's 102nd:

Here's the Calder one from above, although not animated:

Pedro Paulet, rocket scientist:

Karel Appel:

Since there was some recent discussion on trains, Richard Trevithick

Not sure how I missed this one the first time through. Here's the animation link:

And the image:

Robert Bunsen, the animation:

And the image:

Will Eisner:

Guillermo Gonzalez Camarena had something to do with inventing Color TV:

Pop artist Robert Indiana on Valentines Day:

I'm, kind of stretching it here, so last one for Jules Verne:

There are a lot of amazing ones that are just doodles. Again, check them all out here:

As a British-American (but admittedly not much of a royalist) I thought I would add this one one to Sky's collection.

It celebrates Queen Elizabeth's diamond jubilee

Image

For thise of you unaware, the Queen is a big fan of Corgi dogs.

First thought ... sixty years as the Queen ... haven't those folks ever heard about term limits?

Second thought ... who isn't a fan of Corgis! Look at this video - it has nearly seven million hits (of which a few hundred thousand are me):

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=glii-kazad8

There's an ad you have to sit through, and it starts off a little un-corgi-like, but give it some time; it will grow on you too.

So, checking what I've missed between Her majesty (she's a pretty nice girl, but she doesn't have a lot to say) and Mies Van der Rohe ...

On April 13, Brasilia's anniversary, featuring Oscar Niemeyer (apparently still alive at 104!):

Image

On May 23, Robert Moog's 78th birthday, although he stopped counting when he died in 2005:

Image

... but better is the working version, kind of like the Les Paul guitar (posted here about one year ago) and which you can play to your heart's content here:

http://www.google.com/doodles/robert-mo ... h-birthday

I suppose it's a stretch to include Omar Khayyam's 964th Birthday doodle:

Image

... but of course his "Ruby Yacht" was made famous in a Rocky and Bullwinkle episode - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Ruby_Yacht

And finally, simply because I can:

Image

I may never post here again without including at least one corgi reference.

A really excellent doodle today for Saul Bass' 93rd birthday, but it has to be played to be appreciated:

Yma Sumac's 94th birthday Google Doodle. (Although there is a bit of a discrepancy about the actual date - could be 09/10, not 09/13.)

A Google Doodle is a special, temporary alteration of the logo on Google's homepages that commemorates holidays, events, achievements, and people. ... By 2014, Google had published over 2,000 regional and international Doodles throughout its homepages, often featuring guest artists, musicians, and personalities.
