I really cannot agree to this statement made by, I'm assuming, the realtor. The kitchen and the bathroom is horrible and not modern at all!

There are bad realtors everywhere... plenty of clueless people in every city.

There is a reason why I didn't include that listing in this thread. The home must have been really nice in another life, before it was butchered. This home would need a major overhaul to be beautiful again... too bad, because it is in a great location.

it's difficult to say whether this home was designed by Cliff May. It really lacks many signature details that portrayed his work in the '60s. Unless the client dictated much of the design and some remodeling has been done, I would not suggest it was designed by him. Kind of irresponsible of the realtor to mention it without proof.

If I were a betting man, I would say it's not a Cliff May designed home. I have seen other custom Cliff May homes in Fresno, this house os different.

Just a hunch :wink:

So far, it's not clear if this home is a Cliff May or not.

Some of the neighbours contemporary to the builiding say it is a CM.
The niece of a former owner says it i's not, and that it was built by Taylor & Weaver - builders of many other mid-century homes in Fresno.

I personally toured the home yesterday and it is a beautiful place, but could be better after some careful restoration. It seems like a dividing wall was created in the original master bedroom to split it in two (see the second picture in the above previews). Now one side is a familiy room and the other an office. On the other hand, some of the storage cabinetry has the barrel-cork shaped pulls that I've seen in Cliff May homes. I know it's not a sign of a CM, but I was puzzled by that.

Well, I'll keep updating as more information is obtained.

Cliff May did use builders for his custom homes. this one feels a little cramped. doesn't flow like other stuff from the period. I would not rule it out, though. I think if anyone is looking to profit from this home and are saying it was designed by CM, they should have proof. They should at least check city/county records and CM's archive at UCSB.

The Robert Stevens residence is outstanding! Those ceilings are beautiful and unusual. Terrazzo and cork floors, what more could one ask for? Not sure why they installed Granite counter tops in this home.
:oops: Interior also seems a little cluttered, just my personal taste I guess. Would love to see more pictures of the exterior and interior.

No problem, this one is a pleasure to show...

Most of the original traits of the interiors were all maintained. Even with the new granite counters, the house looks fantastic. I agree the furniture chosen is probably not the most appropriate to the scale of the home (I personally would have gone with smaller-scale furniture), by overall, I think my friend Michael Weil did a great job restoring this place.

The ceiling is a very unique Bob Stevens detail... it is commonly seen in the homes he designed. Rough-cut 2-by-4s placed vertically give a great sense of texture and break sound propagation to make large spaces feel more intimate.

Similar types of roof treatments are present in builder-constructed homes, such as Vern Sorensen's and Jerry Freeman"s homes (like mine). The carport in my house is all made in a similar way, giving it a great "texture" when seen from underneath. Small detail that adds great design character to these beautiful homes.
