posted 08-05-2002 04:36 PM Does anyone know what the 99 cent store intends on doing with Johnies Wilshire? Is there any way to convince them to keep it a coffee shop? Maybe like something Woolworth's used to do...or like what the old K-Mart had accross from Farmer's Market...(before they turned it into a Little Ceasar's or whatever it is now). So sad to see another coffee shop bite the dust.

posted 08-06-2002 12:37 PM Johnie's is still a great looking location, but needs some major work. Too bad these ignorant people are the ones dong that work.

posted 08-08-2002 01:35 PM MODCOM members have met with the 99 cents only people, over the phone and in person for many months. We have enlisted an architect to assist in preparing a restoration plan and are doing all we can to convince them to not only retain the building but to restore it. This is one of the last, best examples of architects Armet & Davis' work (1955)
Mr. Gold, owner of the 99 cents only company, has expressed a desire to open a "99 cents only cafe" This location appealed to him for that... but no final word.
