Plesset reg | posted 08-31-2002 12:25 AM I'm talking about the futuristic mural with the joggers in the foreground and the future city (with a levitating People Mover) in the background.Does anyone know why this mural has suddenly become neglected (at least it seems sudden), and does anyone else care? The only other futuristic mural in L.A. that I can think of depicts people made of machinery/liquid metal (on Fig. at Ave 61), part of a montage of Central American history. Kevin unreg | posted 09-03-2002 06:28 PM I believe that this is a 1984 Olympics mural. There must be a huge number of 1984 murals across the city that are at the same point of deterioration, save for those few like the LA Philharmonic mural on the 110 that get continued attention.

nichols reg | posted 09-03-2002 07:34 PM These are the mural preservation folks: http://www.sparcmurals.org/home.html They recently won a major victory in that CalTrans will not automatically paint them out when they are tagged. They wait 90(?) days and contact the artist to restore it... There was recently some funding from the City of LA Cultural Affairs Dept. to restore a few select murals.. check out their site. www.culturela.org

Plesset reg | posted 09-04-2002 05:16 PM Thanks everyone for the info. I will pursue it.Yes, I first noticed the mural around the time of the '84 Olympics, but in the last year-and-a-half or so, it's really gone downhill. [This message has been edited by Plesset (edited 09-04-2002).]
